Following the steps he has taken in the last few months to ensure an atmosphere of peace, the Governor of Rivers State, Mr. Siminalayi Fubara, yesterday received the leadership of Christian Council of Nigeria (CCN) to swell the number of his admirers.
The governor’s drive towards peaceful co-existence in the state has recently endeared him to peace loving indigenes of the state and eminent leaders across the country.
Speaking after the meeting with the Christian leaders, the governor said: “It was indeed a fruitful and rewarding interaction with the clerics on ways of making our state better and more peaceful.”
The visit by the clergy men happened on same day the governor also visited sections of the ongoing 50.15-kilometer Port Harcourt Dual Carriage Ring Road.
Speaking on the road project, he said: “I am impressed by the work being done as it is very dear to our administration. We are committed to delivering this significant project to our people on schedule.”
To amplify his resolve to take charge of the state under a peaceful atmosphere, the governor, during a recent interview on AIT, declared that no sacrifice was too big for him to make for the restoration of peace in the state.
He said he was willing to leave office if it will bring peace to the south-south state.
According to him, “no sacrifice will be too big for me to pay for the success of this administration and the reason is very simple.
“It is not political love. It is not because I want to gain any favour from anybody. My interest and love for our dear state is genuine.
“I am not trying to say I want to be one man that would be there to decide the fate of all, no. But let Rivers state remain.
“If leaving this position is what I need or what is needed to bring more peace to the state, I can even tell you people to come and take it.
“It’s not about me. People should understand that definitely I will go but Rivers state will remain.”
